Manchester City and FC Barcelona to battle for a French World Cup Winner

France, led by shot-stopper Hugo Lloris and coached by Didier Deschamps, won the FIFA World Cup in Russia as they beat Croatia 4-2 in the finals.

Before the FIFA World Cup started in Russia, European giants France were considered one of the hottest contenders for the trophy. France had a balanced squad, with full of experience and youthfulness, which was also star-studded. Benjamin Pavard, the 22-year-old French defender, left a lasting impression on the likes of Barcelona and Manchester City, among others but also made a huge impact for France in the World Cup.

He stunned everyone with his incredible and absolutely magnificent goal against Argentina which helped France take the lead again. His goal against the South American giants, which indeed was a jaw-dropping, also won the goal of the tournament award. Since his marvellous performance for France in the World Cup, he has attracted a slew of potential suitors. Pavard currently plays for Bundesliga outfit Stuggart and clubs like FC Barcelona and Manchester City look set to sign the player away.

While it was expected he would join Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, things have turned on a massive scale. FC Barcelona, despite already having two good defenders on Pavard’s position, are interested in signing the player who can be developed into one of the best defenders.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are also interested in signing the player. Guardiola, who earlier coached Bayern, prefers 3 or 4 defenders at the backline, hence a move for Pavard makes sense. Benjamin Pavard is known for his versatility. The young defender can play on a multitude of positions and could be a real asset to Manchester City, should he decide to choose the EPL.

Author’s Take

Pavard stunned everyone with his incredible goal for France in the World Cup. He was also solid at back and produced some fine displays of quality defending. There is no surprise that top clubs across Europe have shown interest in signing Pavard. By signing him, they acquire the services of a world-class defender, who is only 22, who could rearguard their defence for years. However, it remains to be seen where Pavard would decide to go, as he has offers from Juventus as well.
