A dog appeared to cry after his owner forced him to eat a bowl of chilli chicken in a live-streamed video.

Chinese social media have started filming their dogs binge-eating as part of a online trend called ‘chibo’, which means eating broadcasts.

It originally started with Vloggers filming themselves gorging on huge quantities of food, however some users have dragged their pets into the videos, the Daily Star reports.

The Chinese government cracked down on the internet phenomenon after blaming it for increasing food waste in the country.

It banned all content from popular live-streaming sites such as Douyin, a Chinese version of TikTok, however pet owners have taken advantage and started to do it on their dogs.

In one clip, a dog owner feeds his German shepherd a bowl full of Sichuan chilli chicken, which gives a tingling and numbing sensation.

He is heard saying: “Alright, let’s give our handsome Shuaishuai a taste of Chongqing. This is a dish of chilli chicken.”

The German shepherd appears to be crying with tears coming down the corner of his eyes as he chows down on the spicy dish.

“He is enjoying it,” the man adds.

Another video captured a husky being forced to eat a bag of popping candy while his owner holds onto his snout.

Other dogs owners claimed to set a challenge for their pooches and one filmed a corgi and a golden retriever drinking eight different kinds of pet milk at one time.

It ended with the corgi lying on his back in visible discomfort.

Dog owners have since been slammed for abusing their pets after the unsettling videos became the latest trend on Chinese social media.

Viewers called for a ban on using adorable pets to gain clicks and appealed to users to report on such videos.

One concerned pet lover said: “The dog is clearly not enjoying it, stop it right now!”

Another wrote: “He can’t take it anymore, it’s too spicy for a dog. This is too cruel to watch.”
